Monthly report – May 2017

May was full of work in our shelter.
On the very first day of the month, after the vaccinations in April, our puppies Gara and Tio joined us. These kids, only about six months old, arrived frightened and unhappy but after a couple of days they started to show us super-progress. Gara is a gentle girl with calm character and very fond of people, Tio is still quite distrustful, but with everyday work going he is making a little progress. Gara was immediately sterilized upon arrival at the shelter and she is ready for her new home.
Pregnant Mila, who was taken out of the dog pound on the last day of April and placed in our shelter, brought her babies to the world on 04.05. That day was special to us, from late morning to late evening we were beside her, giving her support, with lots of love and tenderness. It was very emotional to be part of this event, Mila is so caring and good mom, she is simply beautiful. She was watching us all the time with her big eyes, trusting us completely. It was very touching for us, and with a lot of tears came we were welcoming two boys and four cute little girls to the world. Babies grows well, we started with a little extra food and with the first vaccination. They are in quarantine and hopefully we will be able to protect them from the virus.
This month was special for our dogs because of the beach. At the end of April, we promised to them that we will take them all to the beach before the summer season started and beaches filled up with tourists. We couldn’t say who enjoyed more, them or us. The puppies were particularly shocked, they rushed to the beach in joy and happiness, and we shared their happiness and laughed with them. We enjoyed in those moments so much. Some dogs were happy, some were afraid. Some of them tried to lick the sea not knowing what to expect. It was so funny to see expressions of their faces.. Some dogs like our Curice and Zita went into the water and swimm like they did it milion times before. Pablo jumped in the sea catching the ball, Cura just enjoyed lying on the beach, Rocky was cold his paws in the water, Sarka watched what was going on here, Tigar was thrilled with so much water. We were falling into the sea, laughed with tears, recorded hundreds of pictures and videos, we were wet through the skin, and dirt from the dust. It worth every minute. We were especially proud of our dogs from the horror shelter Capica from Rijeka. Only a few months ago this was a completely impossible task for them. But they walked courageously on the leash, enjoyed the sea and our company and learned and experienced many beautiful and new things. Our hearts were full of love, we are so proud of their progress and happy to be part of their lives. We also had a great help on the beach from our new volunteer Vera. She loves dogs and photography, so she has chance to combine those two passions together, and we are all thrilled about it.
Besides the dogs, we were occupied by numberless cats in May. Lots of moms with newborn kittens, lots of them sick and miserable. Our shelter is a place specificly for dogs, so we had to improvise the accommodation for cats and to save at least those who were the most vulnerable. So, in the shelter and in our Dijana’s house, we placed a total of 12 kittens + 3 moms. All the kittens had severe eye’s infection and were on the 10 days therapy. Five kittens are already adopted, including our cat Drmalica who has been with us almost a year. Others are reserved and soon should be in new homes. Mom cats are sterilized, two of them are socialized and look for new homes, and one is wild and after being sterilized, she was returned ner the feeding place.
In the middle of the month, our family joined Boa, a Belgian sheppard dog that was only one year old. She arrived on Sunday late afternoon, with infection of her breasts because her baby was taken away immediately after she delevered them. In complete shock, she received antibiotics, and with broken heart she was waiting for 10 days for her family to return. Going to the sea, a lot of cuddling and even more love helped her to leave the past behind and turns to the future waiting for people who will love her forever. Boa is very skinny and currently eating the best food we can afford. As soon as she is recover and have enough power, she will be sterilized and ready for adoption. Her roommate Conan happened to be a real friend, he welcomed her with so much love and help us cure her heart with lots of patients and kisses.
We found a little boy Shorty, with a thick chain around his neck. He became a new member of the Snoopy family. Shorty is a great boy, he decides to fight for attention, so now he kiss anyone who gives him a little attention, expecting to go to that Forever about whom everyone is talking about.
Another great boy arived. It is Tigar, one yeard old big boy, once again proving that big dogs are big babies. From the chain to the shelter, it seems to us that it was not hard at all for him. He enjoys the in his pool full of water, he runs and jump and worshiping everybody. Just in a few hours he totally capture our hearts and we are hoping he will do the same to his new family.
Lino and Popaj survived the evil parvo viroses and Popaj moved to Forever home after his temporary accommodation at our Nevena. Lino (Pupo) came to a shelter and left after a couple of days, this time Forever.
Of course, their place at Diana immediately took another two small puppies only month who were dumped in the night in front of the Veterinary Station Pula. Also, a little Rory, which tourists found in the bush, is placed at Nevena’s home for temporary accomodation. After vaccination they’ll all come to shelter and be ready for adoption.
Our Eva, now Dotty, after socialization with Gaby and Josef, went to her family in Germany, which were very excited about her comming. She had company of two more dogs in her home, and they all enjoyed, we can tell you from their pictures and videos. After she’s gone, her place in Vizinada, took by Mio, our dear boy. After 2 and a half weeks at Gaby and Josef’s house, he learned to drive in the car, sleeps on a couch, go to the town.. Mio went to his new family with a lots of tears, because he attached to Gaby’s family so much. Many thanks to Manuela and her husband who took him to his young family who had been waiting him with so much love. Mio quickly accepted the great love he has received from his new people and his new fourlegged friend and now enjoys life incredibly.
We also adopted our Elba in wonderful family in Porec. After life on the chain, after being beating and struggeling with her babies she found peace in Snoopy shelter. Finally, one young couple felt in love with her and decided to give her all the love in the world. They had been welcomed her with tears in their eyes, and we want them all the happiness and many years together.
At the end of the month, our dear Aro found his forever home. This was a love at first sight, and family couldn’t wait to take him to a better tomorrow.
Except dogs and cats, we also had a little ducks. Yes, 10 small baby ducks we found near street without their mom. We brought them to the shelter, made them a house, heated with a lamp and feed them with boiled eggs and nettle. After 10 days, babies were adopted in homes where they will be loved and cared for, enjoy the freedom and be the real family members.
Some of ours old and some new friends made our days in May. They are all great support in our fight for the better life for our dogs. Many thanks goes to Bianca, Carsten, Sabine, Manuela and all the others who spent part of their holyday’s times with us, working with us to improve the conditions for all the souls we care about. They really touched our hearts with their love, and now we know that we are no longer alone, that our dogs are not left without hope and we’ll all continue to work together for their better tomorrow. We’ve got dog’s houses, lots of food and cans, swimming pools where our friends are already enjoying, special food for Stevie and Goga, leashes, blankets and pillows. We got what we need for the cold winter in front of us. Thank you very much, we are so happy and priviledge to have you near us!
The most spectacular, most beautiful day in May was Tuesday, May 30th. No matter how long we have been preparing for that day, we hardly believed that we were looking Điki and Cura left the shelter. They went to the best home in the world with our Gaby, Josef, Codi, Ava, Yuki, Bodhbhi, Corey, Pomi, Momi, Leyla and Jolly. Their leaving was so emotional for all of us, it was a unique moment filled with love, friendship, joy and unbelief.. After whole life in the shelter, Diki and Cura finally moved to warm and soft, into pure Love, Paradise on Earth, and will never leave the shelter forever. He will live like Kings, and he will return to the shelter like ones. To visit, to approve. 😉 Like real bosses. 😉 And they will return in a warm house full of love. They’ve been waiting so long, gave a lot, but they finally got what they deserve – the best Family in the world. We can’t tell you how happy we are, because today, after 10 days we are still in positive shock. And they enjoy so much, Cura embraced the couch and soft grass, and Diki loves to spend time in the car. We shared their happiness! We just love them all so much!
Among our wonderful friends, very important place belongs to our Christiane, who works a lot on propaganda for our dogs in Germany. Not just that, she also sew cushion for dogs and cats, and all the profit from the sale she donate to our animals. We are really grateful and happy we are slowly expanding our Snoopy family.
Dear friends, we continue to fight for our dogs, sometimes more tired than ever, sometimes with more energy than ever. We are a little worried, because working season began, and Diana and Kristina are working everyday, so they are not able to be in the shelter so often. We are trying to organize the best we can and we are asking for patience in these summer months. We are taking care of lots of animals, and every one of us is equaly important. We all do the best we possibly could, breaking our own limits, keeping our promise to them that we will provide them the best in the world. We strongly believe it is quite possible. We’ve already done a lot, we’re still need a lot of work, but seeing their smiles, everything makes sense.
A lot of greetings from Snoopy’s team
